HR Audit

We provide a comprehensive audit of your HR set-up. The audit includes assessing your strategic approach to HR, reviewing your organisation’s values and culture and how these are perceived by the team, the effectiveness of your people management operations and compliance with employment legislation/regulations.

We also check your employment documentation, and any IT systems used to store personal data. This process involves spending at least a day on site with your business, talking to the leadership team/founders and holding focus groups with employees.

Following the audit, we provide a detailed report outlining the strengths and weaknesses of your current HR setup. The report highlights any areas of non-compliance with current legislation and offers clear, prioritised recommendations for enhancing your HR provision, based on both risk and added value.

Employment contracts, policies and employee handbooks

Employment law is constantly evolving, and it can be hard to keep up — especially when you’re running a business. But staying compliant isn’t just about protecting your company and avoiding risk; it also builds trust, clarity and confidence across your team.

We can help by providing tailored HR policies, procedures and employee handbooks that reflect how your business operates. We also supply bespoke offer letters, contracts of employment and a range of practical templates to keep you organised and legally protected.  Having documentation that’s specific to your company’s needs – rather than generic templates – means your team gets clear, relevant guidance from day one.  It also helps manage expectations by setting out roles, responsibilities and standards clearly, reducing the risk of misunderstandings and keeping everyone on the same page.

We can also support with implementing new documentation and advising on how to communicate changes clearly and confidently to your team.

Redundancies, restructuring, TUPE & settlements

Redundancy is a special form of dismissal and happens when an employer needs to reduce its workforce. It is one of the most traumatic events an employee may experience.

Announcing redundancies can have an adverse impact on the morale, motivation and productivity of the whole workforce. However, the negative effects can be minimised with careful planning and the sensitive, fair handling of the process.

We offer bespoke support and advice on how to manage significant organisation change programmes involving redundancies. We can also support with mergers and acquisitions (TUPE), re-structuring and office relocations.

We’ll guide you in designing an approach to ensure you stay legally compliant, supports clear and empathetic communication and provide all necessary documentation. Depending on your needs, we can also support you remotely or on-site with consultation and dismissal meetings.

We can also help with negotiating and drafting a settlement agreement (a legally binding agreement between an employee and employer setting out the terms of the employee’s contract termination).

Disciplinary, grievance & disputes

We know that small businesses are the most vulnerable when it comes to employment disputes.

We support and advise you all the way through those tricky situations with employees – whether it’s a disciplinary, grievance, poor performance issue, or even whistleblowing. Our support is practical, proactive, and tailored to your situation, and includes:

  • Provision of up-to-date, legally compliant employment policies and procedures
  • Guidance on how to run a fair and thorough investigation process — or we can carry it out on your behalf if needed
  • Advise on suspension from work decisions and documentation (if appropriate)
  • Advice on managing sensitive or high-risk cases e.g. discrimination, mental health or neurodiversity, bullying and harassment etc
  • Virtual or on-site support during disciplinary, grievance or capability hearings
  • Assistance in managing / communicating the outcome of the process and any subsequent appeal
  • Post-process support, including mediation and moving forward constructively after a dispute
  • Provision of tailored template letters and supporting documentation

Workplace mediation

No matter how well a team works together, there are inevitably times when differences in opinions can lead to misunderstandings and conflict. Although most problems can be resolved informally, some disagreements can escalate and become tricky to manage.

We recognise that in some cases going straight into a formal grievance process is not always the best option. More and more, our clients are choosing mediation as a proactive way to resolve issues before they escalate.

Mediation is a voluntary process in which an independent third party helps two or more people in dispute to work toward a mutual agreement.

Our trained mediators help reduce misunderstandings and defuse conflict before it causes lasting disruption.  They guide the resolution process, clarifying the issues and helping everyone involved explore constructive options for resolution and forward-looking solutions.

Mediation can be particularly helpful in situations such as:

  • Personality clashes between team members
  • Communication breakdowns
  • Tension following performance or conduct concerns
  • Disagreements between managers and employees
  • Issues arising after a grievance or disciplinary process
  • Supporting a smooth return to work after a conflict or absence

Employee Engagement

Keeping employees motivated, involved and connected to your business is key to retaining great people and getting the best out of your team. When engagement is low, it often shows up as poor performance, lack of initiative, or higher staff turnover.

We can support you with simple, tailored employee engagement surveys that give your team a voice — helping you understand what’s working well and where improvements could be made.

The insights gained can highlight quick wins, uncover underlying issues, and help you make changes that really matter to your people.

Typical results from an engagement survey include:

  • Greater insight into how employees feel about their roles and the business
  • Identification of key drivers of motivation and areas of frustration
  • Early warning signs of potential retention issues
  • Clear actions to improve communication, leadership or team dynamics
  • A stronger sense of trust by giving employees a voice
